I am a recent graduate of Bates College where I studied Economics and Russian. I have also studied in St. Petersburg, Russia and Bogaziçi University in Istanbul, and am from Palo Alto, California.
My current love in life is cycling. I am a fan of almost all sports, especially gymnastics, which I did for 14 years.
My academic interests spread far beyond economics. I have also done much work in Turkish studies, in specific politics and minority music.
I would not be where I am today without the support of my amazing parents. My mom is my voice of reason and the inspiration behind going to Bates College. My dad has recently passed away, but shaped my interests and ambitions, specifically in cycling, and was my number one supporter. He brought me along with him in cycling trips to France, Switzerland, and Italy. He is greatly missed.
Hi Annie,
Hope your studies in Turkey are going well. The boys were home this weekend and asked me if I had heard from you or your dad about your study abroad adventures. I did not so I found your blogsite and sent the link to them. Sounds like it is quite an adventure. I am very curious in your new academic interest…..specifically what areas of technology and what societies you would like to measure its effects on. What graduate programs would this fall under? Psycology? Sociology? Anthropology? I could imagine bits of each in this. Anyway, hope you are doing well. We hope to see you, Jane, and your parents again too.
Hello Annie,
Thank you very much for letting me visit your page and read about your work. I stumbled upon your site while i was searching for information about Tarkan and his influence to the Turkish culture. I see you wrote a final paper about a similiar topic. There isnt much information on the web or in books. I think your paper can provide extra information and help me with my writings. I noticed that you posted parts of your paper. Is it possible to obtain the full text? Maybe you can e-mail it. Of course i will write your name down in my bibligraphy
looking forward to your reply!
greets,
Frank de Kok
Hi Annie,
As you know, your Dad was a close friend and an inspiration to me as well. I look forward to continuing cycling adventures with you and many others in your Dad’s greater cycling family (Lisa, Mimi, John, Randy, etc.) .
I too am of a fan of many sports. The past two summers, with the help and support of some friends, some who also knew your Dad, I’ve gotten into backpacking. One of my new backpacking pals is a fellow by the name of Daniel Friedman. Daniel is a professor of economics at UCSC who just published a book by the name of Morals and Markets (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Morals-and-Markets/Daniel-Friedman/e/9780230600973).
Reading about your interests made me think that you may have an interest in his work and perhaps when things settle down a bit I could introduce you to him. Even better yet, the three of us could go for hike and we could critique is work (grin).
Keep up of the good work and of course, the cycling!
Craig
Hi,
I was looking for the lyrics of Kece Kurdan of Aynur Dogan. I am a big fan of her. And so I came to your website, it is a really interesting website. Your translating into English is just good and I am glad that you think it is a good songtext like me.
I also read the most of your other articles, and I find it very interesting. Especially the articles about Turkey and Istanbul, I regularly go to Turkey, so I know what you are talking about!:D
I hope that you will post more of these kind of articles. Wish you luck in your studies in Turkey!
Hey! Annie,
How are you? Are you still in California? This is Isabelle. You and your dad came to SF and we went to fritz once, remember? I just want to drop by to say hi and see how your family is doing. Please say hi to your mom for me.
Take care
-Isabelle
